Piers Gorge
Menominee River Rages
Piers is a deep gorge cut by the Menominee River between Michigan and Wisconsin. Granite boulders give this river its rush and it was also the site of the World Cup Kayak Races from 1983-1997. The drops look like piers as they fall over ledges. These create four sets of rapids, the biggest drop being 8’. The trail is paved with flat sandstone slabs, rocks, and lots of tree roots. Roxy enjoyed the cool swim and drink at Sand Portage Falls.

Yes. People were rafting down this torrent although a few decided to disembark eat Sand Portage before their raft plummeted down the Class 4 eight foot drop.
We will leave you with the power of water! Off to our less than scenic campground chosen mainly for its laundry facilities. Summer Breeze Campground in Iron Mountain. Some people choose this for the pool, but upon arrival, there was a big sign stating, “POOL CLOSED DUE TO BACTERIAL CONTAMINATION. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE”. Poor parents. There are a lot of kids here:(
Tomorrow: WATERFALL TOURS, Black Mountain Scenic Highway around Lake Superior. Jose has already decided that we may not want to see all of them.
Jose, Sharon, Roxy, and Mosey
